Boyes Turner’s medical negligence lawyers recovered £15,000 in compensation for a 6 year old boy due to a negligently performed circumcision.
The boy was circumcised by a General Practitioner under local anaesthetic when he was six weeks old.
After a day, his parents noticed that the penis started to smell and the bell ring appeared very tight. They took him to A & E and were told that he had an infection and that too much skin had been taken during the circumcision.
He consequently saw a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and underwent reconstructive surgery with a skin graft taken from his left buttock. He recovered well from the surgery and is unlikely to have any functional problems in the future.
His mother took advice from Boyes Turner’s specialist medical negligence lawyers and a compensation claim was brought against the GP for the negligently performed circumcision which resulted in the additional surgical procedure and a period of pain and suffering.
Expert evidence was obtained from a Paediatric Urologist who concluded that the boy's skin graft had healed well however the expert instructed was concerned that the abnormal appearance of the skin graft may have a psychological effect on him in the future. The Defendant initially refused to consider the possibility of a psychological effect on the boy, but after obtaining their own expert evidence, they agreed to increase the level of damages they were offering.
A settlement figure of £15,000 in compensation was negotiated by Boyes Turner’s medical negligence lawyers.
There was no cost to our client in bringing the medical claim.
