£22.5k compensation after negligent midwife caused baby to be stillborn
Boyes Turner's medical negligence lawyers recovered £22.5k in compensation for a 24 year old woman following the stillbirth of her son.
She attended an antenatal appointment with a midwife and reported a lack of foetal movement since the previous evening. The midwife failed to arrange a CTG recording. The next day contractions started and she attended hospital. She informed the midwives again of the lack of foetal movement and approximately half an hour after the midwife commenced CTG monitoring a profound foetal bradycardia was recorded. She was taken immediately to theatre and underwent a Caesarean Section. Her baby was unfortunately stillborn despite aggressive attempts to resuscitate him.
Boyes Turner's medical negligence lawyers were instructed and expert evidence was obtained from an obstetrician which confirmed that, had appropriate CTG monitoring taken place at the antenatal appointment the day before the delivery, it would have been pathological leading to the delivery of the baby before intra-uterine death.
Boyes Turner’s lawyers obtained a psychiatric report which confirmed that she had suffered a devastating psychological injury as a result of the stillbirth. A settlement of £22.5k was negotiated by Boyes Turner’s lawyers following the commencement of formal court proceedings against the defendant hospital. The case was funded by legal aid and there was no cost to our client in bringing the claim.
