£50k compensation - physical and psychological injuries suffered as a result of negligent aftercare provided to new mother
Boyes Turner's medical negligence lawyers recovered £50k in compensation for a 33 year old woman in relation to the negligent suturing of a perineal tear sustained following delivery of her first child.
Supportive expert evidence was obtained by Boyes Turner's medical negligence lawyers, which confirmed that the midwife performing the suturing of the perineal tear sutured it in a negligent manner and attached hymenal fragments to the vulva.
She underwent revision surgery two days later and has been left with a residual perineal defect of a small flap of protruding vaginal tissue. She also feels extreme tenderness and pain due to the further scarring as a result of the revision surgery. She suffered a severe psychological reaction which impacted on her daily life and her ability to work and now requires further surgery and psycho-sexual counselling.
A settlement figure of £50k in compensation was negotiated following the commencement of formal Court proceedings against the defendant hospital.
