£25k compensation - psychological trauma caused by negligent care of caesarean section patient

Boyes Turner's medical negligence lawyers recovered £25k in compensation for a 30 year old woman in just over 12 months. She had suffered psychiatric injury as a result of the negligent management of her caesarean section wound by the Defendant hospital.

Whilst at home, her caesarean section wound had broken down resulting in a portion of her bowel protruding through the wound. As she had walked to alert her partner, more and more of her bowel came out. She was taken back to the hospital by ambulance and was given morphine to calm her down.

She underwent an operation to close the wound and remained in hospital for 3 more days.

She suffered an extreme psychological reaction to the distressing incident and continues to relive the frightening experience. She suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychotherapy has been recommended.

She took advice from Boyes Turner’s medical negligence lawyers and a compensation claim was brought against the hospital. A letter of claim was sent to the hospital which subsequently admitted that it had provided a substandard level of care. A supportive medical report was obtained, which diagnosed PTSD and a £25k settlement figure was negotiated. There was no cost to our client in bringing the claim.
