Surgery negligence - surgical instrument left inside knee
Boyes Turner medical negligence lawyers acted on behalf of a 25 year old who underwent surgery to her knee at Fairfield Hospital in Bury. The operation itself went well but a metal sleeve from one of the tools had broken off and been left inside her knee. She therefore required a second operation under general anaesthetic to remove the metal. This second, unnecessary operation delayed her recovery and left her with additional scarring.
A detailed Letter of Claim was served based purely on the GP and Hospital records in light of what appeared to be a straightforward medical claim. Liability was admitted and the claim was settled in the sum of £5,250.
The medical claim was dealt with by way of a Conditional Fee Agreement with no costs to the client and completed within 9 months.
