Over £100k compensation after hospital's failure to diagnose fetal abnormality on antenatal scan
Boyes Turner recently acted for a woman whose child was born with a missing lower arm, from the elbow down.
She claimed that this abnormality should have been detected at a routine anomaly scan. If it had been, she would have undergone a termination.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust admitted that the abnormality should have been detected at an anomaly scan but denied that the woman would have terminated the pregnancy, or been offered a termination.
Court proceedings commenced and after negotiation the case was settled for £108k to reflect the extra costs of bringing up a child with additional needs.
