Compensation awarded for victim of A&E negligence
Boyes Turner’s medical negligence lawyers secured £5,500 in compensation payment for a 28 year old man who sustained a severed thumb tendon, which was not diagnosed by A&E.
Mr B cut his left (non-dominant) thumb with a Stanley knife whilst at work. On presenting at A&E, the wound was cleaned and steri-stripped and Mr B was discharged. Later that day Mr B felt something “go” in his thumb. On presenting at a different hospital, a severed tendon was diagnosed. Mr B then underwent an operation to repair the tendon and he is now left with a functional deficit.
Boyes Turner’s lawyers established that if the wound had been properly examined at A&E the then partially severed tendon would have been identified and Mr B, on the balance of probability, would have recovered without requiring an operation. He would also probably not have been left with a functional deficit.
